The island is 18 km long and 4.5 km wide, has beautiful inlets and high cliffs and is located in La Paz Bay. It is one of the most spectacular islands on the coast of the Gulf of California.

The eastern part of its coastline is quite uniform while the western part is made up of a series of small bays with beautiful beaches that have become excellent shelters for all types of boats.

The fabulous marine life around the island makes it one of the very favorite spots of both beginners and seasoned divers.

The island is also the habitat of a myriad species of sea birds, reptiles, rodents, and amphibians.

When the tide rises, the island divides and the Partida Island emerges. A giant sea lion colony resides on Los Islotes, off the north tip of the island.
