Central Mexico
It's a reef that begins at Cabo Catoche in the northern part of the state of Quintana Roo and extends to the coasts of Honduras, passing through Belize and Honduras, covering an area of 1,000 km. It is the second largest in the world. The section that falls within national territory spans 300 km.
The transparency of the water allows sunlight to reach the reef, which promotes its development. The reef encompasses a complex ecosystem with rich biodiversity, including 65 varieties of coral and over 500 different species of fish, mollusks, and crustaceans. It is estimated that 25% of marine life is part of this ecosystem.
It's important to consider the preservation of these structures and their biodiversity, as it is a highly fragile ecosystem.
