Solferino is a small village on the way to Holbox, 15 minutes from Chiquila, near the Yum-Balam Biosphere Reserve.
It is a place with unique natural beauty amidst wetlands, swamps, mangroves, and low jungle, where you can appreciate the diverse flora and fauna of the region. This region is an important wetland known for its cork trees, dyewood, chicozapote, bromeliads, over 35 species of orchids, red mangrove, and seagrass.
The wetland is in perfect condition and has a forest of cork trees known as El Corchal, which is the habitat of jaguars, wild boars, monkeys, and a large number of birds. In some seasons, you can see gardens of water lilies, a truly magical ecosystem that is the habitat of a great diversity of birds, including the Mexican flamingo, roseate spoonbill, and boat-billed heron.
Another attraction in Solferino is the giant ceiba tree located in an orchid garden, estimated to be nearly 800 years old.
In this community, there is an incredible park called Reserva Nativa, which offers a wide range of activities such as canoeing in the lagoon, off-road vehicle rides, Mayan ceremonies, chiclero camp, a panoramic tower for bird watching, a meliponary, and an interactive natural museum, among many other things. An adventure worth experiencing.
