Originally a Jesuit convent, but in 1767, when they were expelled, the building, which at that time had only one floor, was abandoned. Years later, it became a primary school and a military barracks.
In 1855, it became the headquarters of the conciliar seminary, in 1861, the Scientific and Literary Institute was inaugurated, and in 1923, it became the Autonomous University.
The current facade was completely modified during the Porfiriato era, and the second floor was added.
