The town of Hueyotlipan was one of the most important centers of evangelization and religious instruction in Tlaxcala.
The surviving parish dates back to the 16th century and has unique features that make it stand out, such as its tower decorated with plaster angels holding the emblem of the House of Austria, a clear homage to Emperor Charles I of Spain and V of Germany.
Its facade is considered Mannerist due to the combination of styles. It features a circular choir window and an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
The architectural layout is in the form of a Latin cross. At the ends of the church, there are two magnificent 19th-century paintings and confessionals, as well as a pair of neoclassical altars.
The main altar is also in neoclassical style and displays the images of San Ildefonso and the Virgin of Guadalupe.
