Its name comes from the fact that the first explorers found various animal skeletons, including some that have been extinct for many years. Some of these remains can still be seen.
The cenote is characterized by its beautiful natural environment in the middle of virgin jungle, which is the habitat of a good number of spider monkeys.
It has an average depth of 3 meters and a maximum depth of 6 meters. The temperature ranges from 24 to 26°C.
Although it is never far from an air surface, the immersion is mostly dark as there is not much natural light penetration. In contrast, the sediments, walls, and formations are all white, reflecting the little light that enters like mirrors. At times, you will feel like you're in a crystal palace and may see some blind cave fish.
Divers need skills as the formations are shallow and fragile, so another option is to practice snorkeling.
