Located in a remote corner of the mountains, it's a very interesting site as it showcases the ancient history of Tamaulipas. Here, you can see how the early settlers evolved from gatherers to agricultural communities that were able to domesticate wild plants, especially corn.

Right in the canyon, you can observe the remnants left by these ancient tribes, such as cave paintings.

One of the most astonishing places is the Cave of Nogales, where you can see impressive cave paintings, with red handprints standing out. Although there are other caves along the canyon where remnants of ancient paintings are also preserved.

It's also important to highlight that in Cave 1, some paintings have been well-preserved over time. On the ceiling and walls, you'll see geometric figures, as well as lines and squares.

We advise you to always be accompanied by an experienced local guide when exploring the canyon.
