It is a 50 kilometer long bay protected by the sandy islands of Magdalena and Santa Margarita, making it the largest in the state. It is in this bay that the gray whale comes to mate during the winter. It is also an excellent place to fish.
On Magdalena Island you can camp and explore its large dunes. In the northern part there is a large colony of sea lions.
The coastal area is made up of estuaries and channels that house the most important biological reserve of mangrove forests in the Baja California peninsula. These large mangroves have become a sanctuary for thousands of birds such as osprey, frigates, seagulls, white ibis, blue heron, garzón, patobuzo and other migratory birds such as the bighorn pelican, peregrine falcon and rock thrush, to name a few.
It has a small fishing port called San Carlos, from where you can hire boats to have a lifetime experience with amazing whale sightings!
