The Flora and Fauna Protection Area "North Portion and Eastern Coastal Strip, Terrestrial and Marine of Cozumel Island is a federal protected natural area that includes the northern portion and the eastern coastal strip, both on land and at sea, of Cozumel.
The natural area covers nearly 38,000 hectares and has a great diversity of ecosystems such as reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, coastal dunes, scrublands, jungles, as well as the largest system of wetlands and coastal lagoons on the island.
