Located in the municipality of Huatabampo, very close to the Port of Yávaros, famous for its sardines., muy cerca del Puerto de Yávaros, famoso por sus sardinas. 

The estuary is populated by a dense mangrove forest that is the habitat of thousands of birds, including more than 125 species such as herons, cranes, white and brown pelicans, ducks (mallard and baldpate), roseate spoonbills, various species of seagulls, frigates, and sea cocks.

Due to its beauty and the large number of birds, which can exceed 40,000 during winter, it has become one of the favorite places for locals and tourists.

It has been declared an ecological reserve since 2014.
