It was also known as the Church of the Mejorada Order.
The convent was built by the Franciscans between 1688 and 1694 in the classic Franciscan style.
Later, it served as a hospital, a women's prison, and a soldiers' barracks. In the late 1970s, it was donated by the State Government to house the School of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Yucatán.
It has an entrance with lintels and a frame adorned with diamond-shaped decorations.
The interior is a single nave with several side chapels. It has a small altarpiece richly ornamented with plant motifs, and in the center, there is an image of the Virgin of Carmen.
