Templo del Cerrillo
The temple from the 17th century is dedicated to the Lord of Transfiguration.
It is located behind Santo Domingo, on Comitán Street and Belisario Domínguez.
This neighborhood was founded by Chol, Tsotsil, and Zoque slaves, among others, who were later freed due to the denunciations made by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas before the Spanish court.
The square in front of the church, with its kiosk, takes us back to colonial times. Surrounded by well-preserved mansions and cobblestone alleys, the simple facade with a doorway flanked by two columns stands out.
The church's facade also includes a pair of columns on each side and two small single-story towers.
