The construction dates back to the 17th century and features a Neoclassical facade with its typical pediment cut at the bottom.
It is the oldest church in the city, and its towers resemble those of the Santa María Church in Orizaba.
Throughout its history, it was used as Francisco I. Madero's headquarters, and later as a Labor Chamber, which led to the disappearance of some pieces and images from its main altar.
