Templo de San Francisco de Asís
The complex consisted of a temple, cloister, dormitories, and an extensive orchard.
The old convent and church were very simple, built with adobe starting in the year 1580.
Over the years, the complex underwent transformations until the current temple was built in the late 17th century, located in the beautiful San Francisco Garden.
The temple has a beautiful Baroque facade with Solomon-style columns. At the top, you can appreciate the choir window and the Mexican eagle, which replaced the royal coat of arms after Independence. On the sides, the sculptures of Santo Domingo and San Francisco are placed.
The two gardens, one in front of this temple and the other in front of the Aránzazu chapel, used to form the large atrium of the convent.
Adjacent to the temple, there is a plaza with arches and a fountain where crafts are sold, and there is a station where you can board the famous calandrias, horse-drawn carriages that take tours around the city center.
