Templo de Nuestra Señora del Pilar (La Enseñanza)

It is one of the greatest jewels of New Spanish Baroque.

According to some critics, this temple represents the culmination of Mexican Baroque evolution.

It was built between 1772 and 1778, and next to it was a convent dedicated to the education of girls, where they received classes in reading, music, and various skills. It also served as a boarding house for the students. It was one of the first schools for women in the 18th century, hence its name.

After being one of the most prestigious convents during the last third of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, it was abandoned due to the expulsion of religious orders in 1861.

The convent was sold to individuals and used as a courthouse in 1867 and as a school for the blind.

It has a facade with a single entrance and a tiny atrium.

It has a stunning gold-plated altarpiece and is flanked by two large oil paintings. This beautiful ensemble stands out due to the light entering through the octagonal dome.
