This temple dates back to 1735.
Initially, it was a convent occupied by the Order of Discalced Carmelites.
Adjacent to it is the Ex-Convent of San Juan de la Cruz, which currently houses the headquarters of the Bishopric of Orizaba.
Its festivity is celebrated on July 16th in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
