Construction of the temple began around 1767 and was completed in 1805.

The church, in a Greek cross plan, exhibits structural similarities to El Sagrario in Mexico City.

Externally, two gray quarry towers flank its single entrance. Its facade contrasts a sober neoclassical stone portal with the walls covered in traditional brick and Talavera tile, forming vibrant panels that depict images of saints.

Since the church was completed in the 19th century, the altars are from that period. However, some colonial paintings can be admired inside, including scenes from the life of Saint John Nepomucene and the Virgin, both signed by Miguel de Mendoza.
