Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Construction began in 1653-1658 and was ordered by Bishop Barrientos Lomelín as a resting place.
At first glance, the sanctuary's facade gives the impression of being very sober, but upon exploring the interior, one can observe a vast decoration that combines Neoclassical and Neo-Gothic styles.
In the main altar of the Guadalupe Sanctuary, there is a grand cypress tree created by the renowned master Benigno Montoya.
It is said that the remains of several insurgents who accompanied Father Miguel Hidalgo at the time of his capture are deposited inside the temple's presbytery. Among them are the distinguished soldiers Mariano Belleza, Pedro Bustamante, Carlos Medina, Ignacio Hidalgo, Bernardo Conde, and Ignacio Jiménez. They were all executed in the city of Durango on July 17, 1812.
