Sagrario Metropolitano (Metropolitan Tabernacle)
Construction of the tabernacle began in 1808 by agreement of Bishop Ruiz Cabañas and was completed in 1843.
It is considered the second most important neoclassical building in the city.
Its façade is crowned by a neoclassical quarry portico consisting of two side pilasters and two columns in the center with Tuscan capitals. At the corners of the straight pediment, three sculptures representing the theological virtues Faith, Hope, and Charity can be seen.
The dome is covered in mosaic with angular colored figures. Its drum or base has twelve windows with stained glass displaying figures of apostles, separated by twelve pairs of Ionic columns.
The lateral façade features an entrance and doorway with double pilasters on the sides and a frieze and straight pediment above them.
The interior has a Latin cross plan and ribbed vaults, with several decorated medallions beneath the dome.
