Capilla de la Conchita
This name, as an affectionate term, refers to the garden surrounding the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.
It was probably Mexico's first Christian building, located near the springs that supplied water to, and even flooded, the city of Mexico Tenochtitlán. When Hernán Cortés arrived in Coyoacán, he ordered the construction of the church "La Conchita" on what was once a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center.
The current chapel is an 18th-century construction with a single nave, a dome, and two bell towers. Its façade follows a Plateresque style with Mudéjar-inspired decorations.
Inside, beautiful Baroque altarpieces can be admired.
