Its construction was promoted by Bishop Fray Antonio Alcalde.
The cornerstone was laid on January 7, 1777, and it was completed on January 7, 1781.
It is a Churrigueresque-style building made of yellow quarry stone from Barranca de Huentitán. Its facade is simple and elegant, consisting of two levels.
The interior is Neoclassical in style, with 28 oil paintings depicting the Virgin Mary, the evangelists, and the Supreme Pontiffs on the walls.
The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is located on the main altar. It is a painting dating back to 1779, created by José de Alcíbar, and is crowned with a golden crown.
