The construction of this building began in 1545 .
The construction of this building began in 1545 and included the Town Hall, the Alhóndiga, and the Royal Houses.
Hernán Cortés resided in the old Royal Houses building, which was also the residence of Luis de Moscoso, the magistrate of the province of Tlaxcala.
Throughout its history, it has suffered various destructions and modifications, but it still retains, from the 16th century, the interior arches and the lower part of the building, whose ornamentation has been identified as a sample of Portuguese Mudéjar style.
The main facade features a plateresque style, with a beautiful door surrounded by magnificent carved stone motifs of vegetation, as well as baroque-style decorative plasterwork. The beautiful balconies on the sides combine fine wrought iron designs with the solidity of bricks.
Inside the building, you can appreciate a beautiful collection of fresco murals painted by the Tlaxcalan artist Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin, depicting the history of the people of Tlaxcala. This work began in 1957 and covers an area of over 450 m2.
