A Franciscan construction founded in 1537.

The Cathedral is considered one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings from the 16th century in Tlaxcala.

The convent complex includes an entrance, tower, high atrium, cloister, temple, baptismal chapel, and open chapel with a lower atrium.

The entrance to the atrium is through three round arches, with the central one being the largest and supported by Tuscan columns. It connects the tower to the cloister through an upper gallery.

The entrance to the former convent has three molded round arches supported by columns with Doric capitals. It houses the Regional Museum of Tlaxcala.

The facade of the church is simple, and the interior consists of a single nave. On the right side, there are four chapels, one dedicated to Jesus Christ. The most notable is the Third Order chapel, with a baroque altarpiece housing a central sculpture of Saint Francis. Another chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony, featuring a baroque altarpiece with oil paintings depicting scenes from the life of Saint Anthony of Padua. The ceiling, crafted in cedarwood, is particularly striking in its Mudéjar style.

The main altarpiece stands out with its baroque style, featuring Solomonic columns, niches, and oil paintings. The octagonal dome has a drum and pendentives decorated with paintings.

In the lower atrium, there is the open chapel, categorized as a humilladero, built between 1537 and 1540. It is also known as the Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary and is one of the most beautiful in the country due to its layout and style.
