National Museum of Interventions, Ex Convent of Churubusco
This Franciscan convent dates back to the 17th century.
It was built on the site of an important pre-Hispanic shrine dedicated to Huitzilopochtli, the god of war. Interestingly, the stones from the pre-Hispanic temple were used to construct the colonial convent.
During the American intervention in 1847, the 17th-century building served as a fortress under General Anaya. Paradoxically, it was one of the last fortifications to fall to the invaders.
The complex includes a chapel, living quarters, a cloister, a garden, and three inner courtyards.
The Museum of Interventions now houses a collection of various objects related to the different interventions that have occurred in the national territory. You'll find lithographs, engravings, maps, decorations, furniture, and paintings.
Additionally, there's a selection of religious paintings and sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries, representing the viceregal period.
