Museo del Valle de Tehuacán

This museum is dedicated to telling the story of corn.

It also explores its evolution and importance in the sedentarization of Mesoamerica and the prominent role it has played in all cultures of the region.

It has three rooms. The first one talks about the history of research conducted in the region, showcasing notable pieces such as a Mixtec urn with an impressive headdress depicting the figure of Tláloc.

The second room is dedicated to corn and its role in the history of Tehuacán. A striking feature is a large mural made with different types and colors of corn seeds, portraying Xilonen, the goddess of tender and young corn.

The third room is dedicated to temporary exhibitions.

Among its exhibits, you'll find ancient and tiny corncobs discovered in the Tehuacán Valley, as well as a wide variety of pre-Hispanic artifacts, including vessels, plates, bead necklaces, and grinding stones, among many others.

There are also human skeletal remains, information about archaeological sites in the region that are not yet open to the public, maps, and illustrations.
