The building dates back to 1719 and housed an Augustinian convent.
The Archaeology Museum has of three floors and is constructed with gray and red quarry stone, influenced by various architectural styles such as Moorish and Renaissance, while also incorporating some Art Nouveau details in its decoration.
It presents an exhibition titled "Inspiration in Clay: Art and Culture of Death." The collection consists of over 260 pieces found in shaft tombs dating back to the Late Preclassic and Classic periods (300 BC to 400 AD) from the states of Jalisco, Nayarit, and Colima.
The museum also features interesting models and musical instruments.
