Misión de San Luis Gonzaga de Chiriyaquí
It was founded by the Jesuit missionary Lambert Hostell in 1740.
It was established at the site where the Jesuit missionary had set up a Visit in 1721, near the Sierra Giganta, only 28 km from the Mission of Our Lady of Sorrows of Chillá.
The construction was overseen by the missionary Juan Jacobo Baegert, who took charge of more than 500 natives from various ethnicities.
In recent years, the image of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga was discovered in La Paz, which had been lost since 1914. In a solemn procession, the image was returned to the Mission. This saint is known as the Patron Saint of Youth.
In 1768, the mission was abandoned, and the population was transferred to the Mission of Todos Santos.
The Mission is in good condition and continues to be restored. It does not open regularly for worship, but masses are held on special occasions. It still retains its bell dating back to the 18th century.
To access the Mission, it is necessary to travel more than 50 km on dirt roads.
