It is a colorful temple.
This is a complex of buildings that can be distinguished in two construction stages.
During the first stage (1556-1595), a small temple dedicated to San José was built. The second and larger stage began around 1628 and was completed in the late 17th century.
Its façade includes columns, friezes, and pillars adorned with Talavera tiles. It has a two-story tower with an octagonal top. In the atrium, you can still see the columns that previously supported the outer gate.
The complex includes three chapels: Santa Ana, the Native chapel, and the one formerly known as the Golden Cannon or of Jesus Nazarene.
The interior consists of three naves, and the walls feature eight magnificent Churrigueresque-style altarpieces covered in gold, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. These altarpieces contrast with the more austere neoclassical main altar.
