This small chapel was built in 1572.
It was constructed on the site of an ancient Maya deity Itzam-ná worship center. The original baptismal font is still preserved from the original construction. Later, a temple was built where the Christ of Esquipulas was venerated for many years, dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel until 1944.
It is located in a beautiful square surrounded by leafy trees, and to this day, it is considered a good example of Franciscan architecture from the 16th century, with its sober facade topped by a high and light bell gable with 3 openings.
In its interior, in the center of the altar, you can admire the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, which was brought from Paris in the early 20th century.
