Ex Convento del Carmen
Adjacent to the Temple of Carmen, across Juárez Avenue, lie the remains of the convent which, now rescued and remodeled, is known as the Ex Convent of Carmen.
Currently, it houses a very important cultural center that organizes exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture, theater performances, art cinema, conferences, literary workshops, and other cultural events.
This building was constructed by the Discalced Carmelites between 1687 and 1690. It was remodeled between 1820 and 1830. In the mid-19th century, it became a military barracks, and later a library until the 1960s when it became the current Cultural Center.
