The mission was founded in 1797 by Friar Juan Guadalupe Soriano.
From a distance, it looks like a castle in the middle of the mountains, surrounded by incredible natural landscapes.
However, it was not completed, and today it has a very special atmosphere with its three semi-destroyed bells.
Inside, there are two courtyards adorned with arches, as well as cells, a chapel, and a sacristy. Within the complex of the Ex Convent, you can also see a dressing room and an interior chapel where the locals carry out liturgical activities in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Bucareli Museum
The mission also houses the Bucareli Museum, which exhibits various pieces used for religious worship, as well as pre-Hispanic artifacts, mining articles, and photographs of the community, including over 450 volumes of various theological treaties.
