Convento San Marcos Tlayecac
This convent was built by the Augustinians in the early 17th century.
It seems to have been constructed on the base of a pre-Hispanic pyramid.
Initially, it depended on the monastery of San Agustín in Jonacatepec, and later on that of Zacualpan.
The temple has a single nave and is oriented towards the east. Its facade is simple with discernible decorations.
Inside, the temple has a gloomy atmosphere due to a lack of light and the presence of many images, altars, and sculptures.
The cloister consists of a single wing with mostly abandoned rooms. It was never completed, and some remnants of the early constructions can still be seen.
The atrium can still be distinguished and is filled with tombs from different periods.
