Cathedral of Chihuahua
This attractive building is located in the city center.
Its construction began in 1725 by Antonio de Nava, and its towers were completed by Bernardo del Carpio. On November 8, 1891, this Parish Temple of Chihuahua was established as a Cathedral.
The first church in the city of Chihuahua was a chapel that was built in the same location where the Cathedral stands today. This chapel, rusticly constructed with adobe in 1703, remained until 1727 when it was demolished to initiate the construction of the Parish Church. Its construction began in 1725 by Antonio de Nava, and its towers were completed by Bernardo del Carpio.
It is a beautiful building with a harmonious Baroque design. The grand wooden door is framed by an arch. The facade is carved in stone with decorative elements of foliage, fruits, and flowers.
Inside, there are three Doric-style aisles and a monumental organ brought from Germany, considered one of the finest examples in all of Mexico. The octagonal dome is supported by a drum with octagonal windows.
