Located 400 meters from the Ocotlán Sanctuary, this is the place where the Virgin Mary appeared to the indigenous man Juan Diego Bernardino.

According to the accounts of the time, it is here that the miraculous spring of water, gifted by the Virgin to the indigenous man for the healing of the sick from the plague, originated.

She also instructed the Franciscans to search for an image of the Virgin inside an ocote tree, which happened a few days later.

However, it was not until the late 17th and early 18th centuries that a wall was built to protect the miraculous site. It was later replaced by a square-shaped chapel constructed in 1896, where the faithful could drink the groundwater.

The current construction is octagonal and was built at the beginning of the 20th century. It features colorful paintings inside, and its exterior is highlighted by a beautiful dome.
