It is located just in front of the Convent of Santa Cruz on the top of Sangremal Hill.

The chapel was built in 1649 by Franciscan friars. However, years later, in the early 17th century, it was rebuilt as indicated by the inscription found in the portico.

It is believed that this was the location of a pre-Hispanic humilladero and later a Catholic one where the Holy Cross of Miracles was venerated. It was also one of the 14 chapels in the city that were part of the Via Crucis.

It is a small austere chapel with two Tuscan pilasters and an Ionic cornice with a Tuscan frieze. It has a two-story tower topped by a stone cross.

Inside, there is a nave with a presbytery and the main altar.
