Hacienda El Lencero
The museum is housed in an old hacienda built in 1525 by Juan Lencero, a soldier of the conquistador Hernán Cortés.
Initially, it served as an inn for travelers, later as a ranch, and in 1842, General López de Santa Anna bought El Lencero and turned it into a hacienda.
This building also has another historical component, as Gabriela Mistral, Rosario Castellanos, and Emma Godoy wrote part of their remarkable work in this hacienda.
In 1981, it was transformed into a museum. Here, furniture, objects, and mementos from the 19th century are preserved. It lacks electric light, which gives it a unique romantic atmosphere, and it has a huge patio that houses a monumental fig tree as old as the five centuries of the house's history.
On the ground floor, you can see the wash basins and a small lake that was used as a pool at certain times.
Since the house is built on a terrace, the second floor offers a beautiful landscape of intense green, and visitors can explore the eight rooms decorated with period objects. Notable items include English clocks from the 16th and 17th centuries, candelabras, cherry wood cabinets, Persian carpets, 15th-century dishes brought from Puebla, silver beds, dry oak trunks, the painting of San Francisco de Asís, a German piano, and an 18th-century violin-shaped padlock.
