This is the most notable example of Neoclassical style in religious architecture in Querétaro.
The construction was carried out by the architect Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras from Celaya. It was completed on July 25, 1805, and the temple was consecrated on January 1, 1807.
The Carmelite mothers remained until 1863 when they were expelled. The convent served as the second prison for Maximilian of Habsburg in 1867.
nside the temple, there is a magnificent sculpture of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, created by the renowned Querétaro artist Mariano Perrusquia. It is located in the main niche of the presbytery altarpiece.
Currently, Teresitas also houses the Episcopal Curia and the José Guadalupe Velázquez Conservatory of Music.
