This temple was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century.
Inside, it houses one of the city's most important images, that of the Apostle Santiago (St. James), the patron saint of the city. The image depicts him kneeling with open hands, representing the Christian pilgrimage.
The façade is austere and has a tower on the left side, while a beautiful patriarchal cross stands at the center of the atrium.
This parish has the particularity of preserving one of the oldest and most complete archives in the state, containing marriage records, baptism certificates, books, and other documents dating back to 1580.
Currently, a small exhibition displays some of these historical treasures, with the enormous choir books being the highlight.
