Parque Zoológico Animaya
At Mérida's Animaya Zoo Park, animals inhabit almost complete freedom. While they are not in their natural habitat, Animaya provides them with the closest possible environment in its spacious areas.
Various activities can be carried out, such as observing flora and fauna and bird watching, among others.
It has several sections: the Maya Stele, which is the main symbol of the zoo. Safari, with an area of 30,832 m2, is the exhibition area where animals from America, Eurasia, and Africa reside. The Herpetarium, located in a rustic Mayan house, houses several specimens such as Burmese pythons, royal pythons, boas, frogs, toads, false coral snakes, and venomous species like the tropical rattlesnake, cantil, or huolpoch, among others.
It also features a felid area, where you can admire lions, tigers, pumas, leopards, and jaguars. An aviary spanning 2,100 m2 with birds of all kinds, especially from the region; and a nocturnal exhibit area for nocturnal habitat species such as raccoons, ferrets, owls, and fruit bats, among others.
You can navigate a catamaran through the lake and explore the islands where monkeys reside, or take a safari-style tour throughout the park.
Additionally, there is a water park with play areas such as "El túnel" (The Tunnel), "La red acuática" (The Water Net), "La esfera desbordante" (The Overflowing Sphere), "Los aros" (The Rings), and "Los domos con chorro sincronizado" (The Synchronized Jet Domes).
You can also enjoy bike rides and visit the botanical garden with over 950 plant species.
