Casa del Conde de la Canal (House of the Count of la Canal)

It is one of the most prominent buildings in all of San Miguel de Allende.

Descending down San Francisco Street, where it changes its name to Conde de la Canal, you will find the House of the Mayorazgo de la Canal.

Built by Mariano Loreto de la Canal y Landeta in the 18th century, it is a beautiful neoclassical mansion and a representation of aristocratic residences.

Its majestic facade features beautiful baroque details that can be observed in a series of arches, highlighting the family's coat of arms. It has an immense wooden door that is lavishly adorned with bas-reliefs and displays the family's coat of arms, such as Don Manuel Tomás de la Canal y Bueno de Baeza.

The two-level entrance is composed of an arch with an eagle relief at the keystone. At the top, you can see a beautiful statue of the Virgin of Loreto.

Its interior is characterized by monumental pilasters and beautiful courtyards.

Currently, this building houses the Citibanamex House of Culture, where you can enjoy various exhibitions and visit their bookstore and craft shop.

It is a tradition for the portals to be a gathering place for some musical groups, especially mariachis, and flower vendors.
