Yumká
Yumká in Maya-Chontal means "forest guardian" and covers an area of approximately 24,000 m2. It showcases regional vegetation, including ornamental, fruit-bearing, medicinal, and timber trees, each identified with informative tags.
The tropical rainforest area offers visitors a magical atmosphere. Among ancient trees, you can observe examples of the regional wildlife, some in captivity and others in the wild.
The animals are housed in spaces designed according to their habitats and level of danger, and information tags are provided for each species. You can observe jaguars, panthers, pumas, ocelots, margays, wild boars, white-tailed deer, otters, raccoons, and spider monkeys.
In a small artificial lake, there are aquatic birds such as pelicans, swans, geese, and ducks. The wild birds are housed in a large spherical cage with natural vegetation. Here, you can see macaws, chachalacas, toucans, parrots, cockatoos, parakeets, peacocks, pigeons, and hoatzins. You can also board a small boat to tour the lagoon and enjoy the flora and fauna.
The reptile area showcases crocodiles and different types of turtles. There is also a herpetarium exhibiting various species of rattlesnakes, as well as boa constrictors, vine snakes, royal pythons, and Gila monsters, among others.
