Templo y Ex Convento de Santo Domingo de Guzmán de Hueyapan
This cultural heritage site was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1994.
Construction from the 16th century, built by the Dominicans on the slopes of the Popocatepetl volcano. The austere building was never completed, lacking a second floor and featuring a more modest cloister.
It is characterized by its adobe and tile cloister and houses a Churrigueresque altarpiece in its interior.
It stands out from the rest for being the smallest and simplest of the convents, as it does not have a second floor in its cloister.
However, the most remarkable feature of this temple is a piece of colonial art carved in a single piece known as the Nicho de Hueyapan, which is considered an artistic and historical treasure. It used to be exhibited in Tepoztlan and has now returned to this town. It is located between the cloister and the sacristy, where a chapel was supposed to be.
