Templo y Ex Convento de San Pedro Apóstol en Jantetelco

Dating back to the 16th century, this construction was initiated in 1558 and concluded in 1571 under the order of the Augustinians.

The vaults were destroyed in 1650 by an earthquake and were repaired in 1676. The façade and the tower feature decorations that appear to date back to the 18th century.

Of small size, this property houses two wooden altarpieces with oil paintings.

Its atrium was lost when remodeling work was carried out on the main square of Jantetelco in the second half of the 20th century.

An important fact is that Mariano Matamoros was a priest in this convent, and a small museum has been improvised in what used to be his room, located next to the convent.

It is one of the fourteen convents in Morelos declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

From the convent, you can appreciate the imposing Peñón de Jantetelco, a distinctive feature of the region.
