Templo y Ex Convento de San Juan Bautista de Tlayacapan

Cultural heritage site inscribed in 1994 on the World Heritage List.

The temple was built from 1554 to 1572 under the orders of the Augustinians. It's a large architectural work, with a main facade over 30 meters high featuring a simple entrance adorned with carved angels and flowers.

The atrium is enormous, but only the northern wall remains original; the others have undergone several modifications. The complex also includes a cloister, an open chapel, the main temple, a pilgrims' portal, side chapels, and a processional passage.

The sacristy stands out with its beautiful mural paintings and frescoes.

Inside, there is a museum of sacred art with a valuable collection of colonial-era artifacts. Another room houses several well-preserved child mummies found beneath the convent's altar.

Throughout the streets of this Magical Town, you'll find various shops offering a wide variety of high-quality crafts. Don't miss the chance to try their traditional green mole or pipián.
