Templo y Ex Convento de la Santa Cruz de Zacat
The complex dates back to 1540 and was built by the Franciscans.
It is famous for housing the legendary Zacate Cross, which is highly revered and considered miraculous.
The sanctuary has a Latin cross floor plan and square apses. In the crossing, two arches with Tuscan columns mark the entrance to the chapel, which houses interesting neoclassical altars with two niches. The vaults have diagonal ribbed arches.
The chapel of Our Lady of Refuge is the most beautiful, featuring an 18th-century oil painting at its center, framed by a carved stone medallion depicting the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus.
On the right side, a pulpit is preserved, and next to it is the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary of Talpa. On the left side of the main nave, you will find the shrine of the Zacate Cross.
You can visit the place to appreciate its architecture or contemplate the splendor of the miraculous Zacate Cross.
