San José Temple
In the 18th century, Bishop Calatayud ordered the construction of a chapel.
Later, in 1760, it was replaced by orders of Bishop Sánchez de Tagle, who began the construction of this impressive Baroque-style temple.
Due to being built on a slope, the parish has a grandeur effect enhanced by the beautiful carving displayed on its facade.
Inside, notable features include Neoclassical altarpieces, beautiful stained glass windows, and furniture dating from the 18th century. Some oil paintings by renowned artists from the viceregal period, such as Cabrera and Cristóbal Villalpando, can also be observed.
The two towers and the clock's topping were built in 1945. These towers are the second tallest in the city.
Facing the parish is Plaza de la Reforma Agraria, but it is better known as Jardín de San José, a pleasant recreational place with a fountain.
