Templo de San Cayetano, Iglesia de la Valenciana

It was built adjacent to the Valenciana mine, the richest in Guanajuato, right on top of the main vein.

Being on the top of the hill, it offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

This temple was built by Antonio de Obregón y Alcocer, the Count of Valenciana and the original owner of the mine, between 1765 and 1788. Although it was never finished, as it is clear that the tower on the right side is missing, as well as the clock.

The façade is beautifully carved and is considered one of the finest examples of Mexican Churrigueresque style.

The building has a Latin cross shape and a beautiful dome over the crossing.

Inside, there are magnificent wooden altarpieces covered in gold, a pulpit with ivory inlays, and 19th-century paintings.

Its organ is remarkable for its history, beauty, and sound qualities. It features carved and pierced ornaments and has the richest set of registers among those built during the colonial period.

Currently, the church is used as a concert venue.

The adjacent silver mine can be visited.
