Capilla de Santa Catarina
This land was donated by the conqueror Hernán Cortés to the Franciscan friars.
The chapel was built in the 17th century on the site where a previous open chapel stood, where the indigenous population was evangelized.Â
It has a baroque-style façade and is dedicated to Catherine of Siena.Â
Some elements from the 17th century are still preserved, such as the bronze tabernacle with gold leaf, the painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and a wooden confessional. A notable statue of Saint Catherine of Siena made of wood and plaster from the 16th century is also featured. de Siena elaborada en madera y yeso del siglo XVI.
In front of it, there is a pleasant square, a tranquil and tree-lined place where you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Coyoacán, surrounded by cafes, theaters, and cultural centers.
