In 1679, the building was used by the Carmelites before founding their convent.
The current construction took place in the mid-18th century but has undergone various changes and reconstructions due to earthquakes over the past three centuries.
The church has a Latin cross shape with a continuous barrel vault. The facade features a portal and two chapels that seem to serve as additional entrances.
It has two atriums and a dome decorated with paintings depicting evangelists. The interior is austere, and the main altarpiece is in neoclassical style. The central showcase containing the image of Our Lady of Consolation is particularly noteworthy.
