Palacio Municipal (City Hall)
Construction of this Baroque-style building began in the late 18th century.
The building housed the tobacco factory or monopoly for its control and sale.
This building is famous because it was from here that Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla proclaimed the abolition of slavery in 1810 in New Spain.
The property has two levels, and its octagonal courtyard stands out, featuring a solid archway and a staircase with the city's coat of arms in the background, an authentic jewel of Morelia's architecture.
In 1846, the building was acquired by the state, and since 1859, it has been the seat of the Municipal Palace.
